He saw her at the coffee shop one dreary, fall, morning. He struck up a conversation, but forgot to get her name. Luckily, she came back the next day.
“Hey,” she said, “my name’s Crane.”
He grins. “Nickname?”
She nods. “I prefer it.”
He laughs and hands her the order. One day and he’s already got it memorized. She takes it and sips. She doesn’t frown or spit it out. He’s happy, this might be the only cup he’s ever made that wasn’t nasty.
“This is wonderfully strong.” She says and smiles at him. “I never got your name.”
“I’m Zane.” He holds out a hand and they shake. There’s no other customers in, so they sit at a table by the window.
“Are you in town for long?” He’s never seen her in town before and he knows everyone.
